This exhibition brings together the work of Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists produced during a series of artists’ camps and workshops held in the Central Western Desert region. Artists Maria Fernanda Cardoso and Alison Clouston travelled to the Ngaanyatjarra and Pitjanjatjara Lands respectively to meet with Tjanpi Desert Weavers to share ideas, skills and experience.

Kuru Alala – Eyes Open is a travelling exhibition developed by the Gold Coast City Art Gallery in partnership with Tjanpi Desert Weavers, proudly supported by the Balnaves Foundation and toured by Museum and Gallery Services Queensland.

This project has been made possible through the Touring Exhibition Partnership Plan of Museum and Gallery Services Queensland, with assistance from the Australia Council, the Federal Government's arts funding and advisory body and the support of Visions of Australia, an Australian Government Program supporting touring exhibitions by providing funding assistance for the development and touring of Australian cultural material across Australia.
