Jan Rybinski is a multi-media artist with an accomplished means of expression including; collage and assemblage, sculpture, painting, and mixed media. “I like busy stuff, patterned surfaces with cut outs giving the work a touch of reality and producing contrast and depth.” Jan’s passion is the depiction of the female face and its eternal beauty. Most of her themes are of the face and its various colours implied in the hair, skin, lips and particularly the eyes the focal point of the face. All of these elements are able to be changed to produce the diverse effects and expressions as required.

Jan trained at the Institute of Art, Caulfield, Melbourne receiving a Certificate of Art and a Diploma of Art. Her profession was as a Fashion Artist and Packaging Designer. Jan has a love of hats, as evident in the work, owing to the influence of her mother who was a milliner.

The Little Woman

The exhibition title can be said with tongue in cheek, as the artworks represent various careers or roles of women that the artist finds inspirational.

Each has a clear message, the movie star, the lover of fashion, the super model of the catwalk, the society queen (as in The Little Black Dress) the woman who loves embroidery, the female soldier, (Made in the USA) the three friends that love Queensland, the supermarket mum and the others that just love to wear hats.

“My aim was to stretch this idea to produce artwork intended not to be taken too seriously, but to be enjoyed for what they are, whimsical and fun. I hope you find pleasure in their existence.”
