Grace Baird

Resides: North Stradbroke Island, The Redlands

Grace Baird art workGrace Baird lives and works on North Stradbroke Island. As an Aboriginal artist she draws inspiration from her local country and its people. The great attraction of Grace’s work is her ability to translate the energy and aesthetics of North Stradbroke Island.

While Grace has no formal training in ceramics, this body of work was made during a 22 week course in hand building and primitive firing techniques which she attended in 2003.

Grace’s work is stocked by the CDEP Shop at North Stradbroke Island and can be found in a number of private collections. Grace has participated in group exhibitions at Avid Gallery in Brisbane and Impeei Gallery in Dunwich, North Stradbroke Island.

The hand built vases and jugs she creates are inspired by the island. Grace’s work incorporates imagery from the island including Aboriginal animals, flowers, birds and faces. Grace is particular about the glazes she uses and strives for accurate colour representation.

“I enjoy taking a slab of clay and transforming it. It is relaxing and remarkable what you can create from clay.”
