Shannon Garson art workShannon Garson is a ceramic artist who has been working in fine porcelain for the past eight years. Her pots have been collected throughout Australia. Shannon completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in Painting at Queensland University of Technology in 1993.  She also completed a Diploma of Ceramics in 1996 at Southbank TAFE.

In 2003 Shannon won the Josephine Ulrick Ceramic Art Award for Excellence at the 22nd Gold Coast International Ceramic Award. Shannon was one of the youngest artists ever to win this prize.

The translucent cups and bowls Shannon creates are covered by lively drawings and subtly textured surfaces. The images are inspired by Shannon’s garden and life in Maleny on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Shannon’s pots begin life as a lump of clay. They are thrown on a wheel and decorated with underglazes, oxides and glazes. All of her pots are porcelain - a fine clay body characterised by its pure white colour and translucency when held up to the light.

“I aim to explore ceramics and life through the synthesis of surface decoration and form. I use everyday objects such as cups and bowls to express my personal stories and transform these humble objects into works of art. Through these pots I strive to connect the visible world, gardens and plants with the intangible and the mysterious.”

Shannon’s work is stocked by Craft Queensland in Brisbane, Craft Victoria and Crowded House Designs in Melbourne as well as Planet Furniture, Salmon Galleries and All Handmade in Sydney.
