Pene Edwards

Pene EdwardsThe basis for my work is an implied aerial view with an unpremeditated figuration. Imagery blends life seen and unseen. There is no foreground / middle ground / and background schema. My paintings take their own path, as my works are purely intuitive and spontaneous. A love of colour, form and mark making are used to create individual works for the viewer to read a journey across the canvas to become embraced by the essence of it.

I do not expect viewers to make the same symbolic association that I do in my work, but hope they will have their own positive responses.

My introduction to the Redlands was when I purchased a property at Capalaba in 1976. During a 15-year stay, I joined the local art group at Yurara where I met and was greatly influenced by local artist, Sheelah Mee. I went on painting excursions with Sheelah and other artists discovering the Redlands.
