2006 Education Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art
11 June - 10 July 2006
Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland, Gallery 1, 2, 3, 4
The Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art aim to recognise and promote excellence in Art Education in state and non-state schools throughout Queensland.
The 29 art works within this central exhibition were selected from 14 regional exhibitions. They represent a much larger number of students who have achieved a similar high standard. Approximately 14,000 students study Senior Art in secondary schools across Queensland.
These awards are not a competition, but focus on the outstanding endeavours of Senior Art students in our schools. Through their work the students demonstrate: an ability to interpret, express and communicate ideas from an independent viewpoint
- an ability to identify, analyse and evaluate visual problems
- inventiveness
- evidence of highly developed concepts of visual arts
- an ability to make judgments with discernment in the selection and application of highly appropriate media and techniques.
The Minister’s Art Awards for Excellence in Art has been an initiative of the Department of Education and the Arts since 1990.
