The Noble Art
A window into Islamic Art by Bassam Rifai
21 January - 19 February 2007
Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland, Gallery 1
The Noble Art features painting, calligraphy, design and decoration produced by local artist, Bassam Rifai, who subscribes to the religious doctrine of Islam. Calligraphy has been the most important medium of artistic expression in Islamic culture for over 14 centuries. For this reason, it is considered the noblest of the visual arts, as it is the writing of the Qur'an that is regarded as sacred art in the world of Islam.
