The Red Shoes and the Rock-pool
Paintings by Denise Piva
8 January - 15 February
Redland Art Gallery, Capalaba
This exhibition explores the layering of time and meaning in the folk tale, The Red Shoes. This folk tale is essentially about desire and wanting more. The Red Shoes and the Rock-pool, explores the desire and romance of belonging to a particular place.
The symbol that runs through the paintings is the red shoes, represented by foot-prints, pieced together with bits of cloth. The footprints are fragmented and worn and their repetition in each artwork acts as a reminder of a wish, promise or desire.
