Deadman’s Beach
Deadman’s Beach with its excitingly mysterious name is picture postcard material, with tree fringed white sandy beaches and rocky headlands at either end.
The beach is believed to have earned its name in the 1950’s when the wind and tide revealed human bones believed to have belonged to a seaman lost in the wreck of the ship Prosperity, which sunk off Point Lookout in 1902.
Deadman’s is accessible by bush track from Cutter Street, or from Cylinder headland.
Although it is not patrolled, in fine conditions, snorkeling is a popular pastime around the rocky areas at either end of the beach. See small fish, crabs and anemones in the water and in the many tidal rock pools - heaps to explore here!
