Surf n swim

Living on Moreton Bay means we’re pretty spoilt for choices when it’s a hot day and we want to cool down.

Apart from the natural water areas in the City, Council provides two public pools where you can hang out and keep cool.

Surf

If catching waves and getting out into nature is your thing, check out some of our well known surf beaches on North Stradbroke Island.
The two main breaks are Cylinder and Main Beach.

Cylinder is a right-hand point break located at Point Lookout.  It needs about 1.5m to 2m of SE swell to start working properly. It is protected from southerly winds making it a good option when the other beaches are blown out. Good conditions should see this Point produce long right hand barrels.

Main Beach is the long stretch of beach found on the southern side of the headland at Point Lookout. This area is a bit of a swell magnet as it is very exposed to southerly and easterly swells. It provides typical beachbreak a-frames and can handle most winds as long as there is a bit of west in it.

Other beaches you can try are Frenchmans and Deadmans.

Public swimming pools

There are two public pools in the Redlands. Both offer a great range of activities like learn to swim classes (for people of any age), squad training and aqua areobics classes.

They're also a great place to beat the heat.
