Economic Development
Ecoman
The name Ecoman combines the words ‘economics’ and ‘management’. Ecoman, a business simulation training program, is a wonderful hands-on learning tool to familiarise students with the world of business. The program aims to promote an understanding of business and make participants aware of the commercial realities of operating a business.
Since 2004, Redlands City Council has been a proud sponsor of Ecoman which delivers a three day computer simulated business program to year 11 and 12 students from schools in the Redlands area where the students learn about private enterprise and the world of business. How it works:
Groups of 21 students are divided into three companies for three days, simulating the business operations of medium-sized manufacturing companies over a four-year period. Facilitators explain business concepts such as strategic planning, financial accounting, cost management, sales and marketing and human resources management to students in simple terms. On the third day, each company report to its shareholders at an AGM on its progress over this period and prospects for the future. This program really puts the theory into practice!
