Local History and the Museum
Council’s local historian can visit your school to share stories of people and events that have shaped our district. The presenter interacts with the students to link these stories to the present. The speaker can also provide advice to schools about local history resources that are suitable for assignments. More information on local history is also available on Redland City Council’s Local History web pages.
At the Redland Museum students can experience the lifestyle, fashion, entertainment and beliefs of local people from the time of free settlement in 1842 until the present. Exhibits explore life without cars, running water, electricity and shopping centres; the impact of settlement on the environment and the shift from self-reliance to consumer culture.
